Tableside payment means the bill is settled at the table instead of at a counter. There are two ways to do it. A server brings a handheld terminal to the table, or the guest scans a QR code on the check and pays from their own phone. Either way, no card is carried across the room and back.

The reason it matters is time. A traditional payment needs a server to make at least two trips, one to bring the check and one to take the card and return it. On a full Friday night those trips are the difference between turning a table once more and not.

What Does Tableside Payment Actually Change?

A POS that travels to the table moves several numbers at once: average check size, server tips, and the number of comps and voids. It also helps when you are short-staffed, because each server can cover more tables in the same shift.

  • Servers stay on the floor. Entering orders at the table means fewer trips to a terminal and faster table turns. Servers who spend the shift with guests rather than at a POS tend to earn more and stay longer.
  • Fewer errors between the table and the kitchen. The order is entered once, where it was given. Nothing is carried in someone’s head across a noisy room.
  • One trip instead of two. Handling the check and the payment in the same transaction removes a whole walk from every table.
  • Fewer voids from sold-out items. When orders go straight to the kitchen display, staff see what has run out in real time. They can warn the table before the dish is promised, not after.
  • Better tips, without anyone asking. Tip suggestions on the device do the arithmetic for the guest, and guests who do not have to calculate tend to pick the higher option.

How Is This Different from Order and Pay at the Table?

Tableside payment is the narrower change of the two. It fixes the end of the meal and leaves the rest of your service model alone. A server still greets the table and takes the order; the only difference is that the bill now closes there too. Order and pay at the table goes further and moves the ordering onto the guest’s own phone. That removes the hardware entirely, but it also removes a step your servers may want to keep. If your service depends on a server taking the order, tableside payment is the version that fits.

How FineDine Handles Payment at the Table

FineDine brings the menu, the ordering and the payment solutions into one system. There is no separate terminal to buy: the phone or tablet your staff already carries becomes the POS. Orders and payments land in the same record whether a server entered them or the guest did.

The quickest way to settle the bill

With split and pay choices, you can settle invoices in under 10 seconds. Turn tables more quickly while enhancing client satisfaction. Increased client happiness equals more tips.

Hassle-free payments

Allow your guests to pay their bills in less than 10 seconds by scanning a QR Code with their phones. They can pay the entire bill, a custom amount, or just the items they would like to pay. Save fifteen minutes per table, or even more if you have a large gathering.

Maintain traditional service experience

Your servers do not have to memorise every side, drink and special request to keep the service style you already have. The payment step gets simpler and the rest of the experience stays as it is.

Accept Credit Cards & e-Wallets

We work with established payment providers so guests can pay the way they already do at checkout: credit card, Apple Pay or Google Pay.

Capture Data

When a guest's bill is paid, Fast Checkout saves their name, email, and order details. This vital data can be used to engage and reward your customers.

Tableside Payment Questions

Should I invest in tableside ordering tablets or stick with traditional methods?
Start by asking what the tablet is for. If the goal is closing the bill at the table, you may not need to buy anything: the phone or tablet your staff already carries can act as the POS. Dedicated tablets earn their cost where they stay on the table or run as a self-service kiosk, not where a server carries one around.
Does tableside payment change how orders are taken?
Not on its own. Tableside payment moves the end of the meal to the table; a server still greets the guest and takes the order. If you also want the ordering step off your staff, that is order and pay at the table, which puts the whole flow on the guest’s own phone.

What tableside payment gives you is time back at every table. Fewer trips per check, faster turns, and a payment step that no longer waits for a guest to catch a server’s eye. Menu and price changes stay one click away, and order details stop being retyped from memory.
